While there are aspects of the design that we have used ourselves to illustrate the theoretical possibility of DDWFTTW, this design lacks dynamically feathering vanes, and therefore cannot achieve DDWFTTW

JB shamelessly stole MarkC's design and had to try it for himself. This really does make a slick little cart that nicely shows that it is possible to make a simple wind powered vehicle that goes downwind faster than the wind.

This clip is intended to demonstrate why DDWFTTW sailing is possible. The upper wheels acting on the moving surface mimic the operation of the propeller and the lower wheels on the table mimc the water turbine. The system is possible by virtue of simple gearing. Notice how the vehicle can actually move faster than the board that is forcing it along.

Why do people test a wind-powered cart on a treadmill? Wind is the relative movement between air and something else (usually the ground). We usually think of the ground being stationary and the air moving, but it works just as well to have the air stationary and the ground moving.
