The startup game has some good analysis on a new Jupiter report about online video. A few highlights.
Jupiter Research released an online study on the subject, The Importance of Delivering a Great Online Video Experience. The survey, commissioned by Akamai (AKAM), showed that 46 percent watch online video monthly and 43 percent watch online video through broadband at least once a week. The research firm suggests that the quality of your viewing experience determines how quickly consumers will accept watching videos on the web and the success of advertising revenue models. Here’s some interesting insight into what captivates users and what doesn’t.
The No. 1 complaint consumers had with online videos is that playback is too slow or gets interrupted due to buffering problems. A whopping 44 percent of users who viewed online videos in the past year sited this issue, and 52 percent said sluggish playback was holding them back from watching more videos on the PC. 60 percent of users said regular online viewers said they’d be less likely to return to a site after a bad experience like a slow upload or a choppy stream.
