Revlayer is a new video ad tool that puts a “layered” ad above any embedded video on your site. It works in two ways, you can either put your own ad code in, or allow Revlayer to serve ads for you and you get a cut of the ad sales.
Here’s a sample, I picked any video from YouTube (actually, my silly Awesome Million video) and put the embed code in. Note: I had previously signed up at Revlayer and put their code into my blog header.
See the ad above the video? That’s it. You must close the ad to watch the video.
Will this catch on? I’m not sure. It’s a very obstructive way to serve an ad. I can’t see too many people being happy with having to close an ad BEFORE they watch a video. I suppose though, that it could work if the video was a must see video.
Interesting idea to say the least though. I think, however, that an ad directly in the video will be the winning video ad methodology.

1Don’t forget about product placement as a way to make money. Brandfame - http://www.brandfame.com - helps you (the producer) connect with brands and advertiser to get product placement or sponsorship deals. And it’s free!
